SMMUSD has sent out a reminder that families who have not yet submitted a free and reduced meal program application should do so immediately, using a new form. Families who qualify for free and reduced meal service may apply for the free music lessons, which are open to students in grades 4-12 who are enrolled in a music class.
The deadline to apply for this program is November 20th, 2020. Once your meal application is approved, you will receive program information and the application link to apply for the free music lessons.
Families who submitted the previous application are NOT required to submit this new application.
The USDA has updated the application, called the Alternative Household Income form, for this year: https://www.smmusd.org/Page/4083
More about the free music program
The Santa Monica Education Foundation funds the endowment programs in Santa Monica. There is space for up to 200 students to receive the lessons. Students are selected through a lottery process.
Important: Do I still need to submit an application for free/reduced school meals if my student is getting free grab and go meals through SMMUSD current breakfast/lunch program?
Yes! The district continues to provide free meals for ALL students at four grab-and-go locations during distance learning, but it’s still important to submit the application for free or reduced school meals if you think your family is eligible, so that your student can continue to receive free/reduced meals when the current grab-and-go breakfast/lunch program ends.
