Belmar park is a new 3.5-acre multi-purpose sports field complex by the Civic Center that incorporates the Belmar History + Art project. The Belmar History + Art project commemorates the site as home to a thriving African American community in the 1950s and honors the legacy of the historic Belmar neighborhood’s contributions to Santa Monica life.
You can view the project’s historical interpretive panels along a 0.4mile walking path and there’s a monumental new sculpture near the entrance to the field.
You can celebrate the opening of the park! The park’s virtual Grand Opening and Site Dedication is on Sunday, February 28th at 3pm. Register here.
Note that the event will be rebroadcast on CityTV Channel 16 on Monday, March 1st at 8pm and will be available to view on the City’s YouTube channel.
