November is Childhood Food Insecurity Month at Lincoln
This November, the PTSA is spreading awareness for Childhood Food Insecurity in our school community. We feel that EVERYONE should have enough to eat and we want to help make that happen.
Childhood food insecurity matters
Chronic undernutrition in early life is linked to reduced schooling, poorer cognitive skills, lower earnings and a higher likelihood of living in poverty. 62% of teachers in America notice that students in their classrooms come to school hungry and hungry students cannot learn. Children facing hunger are twice as likely to repeat a grade in school!
At Lincoln we have two programs to help combat childhood hunger, the PTSA Food Pantry and our 1st Annual Food Drive!
Lincoln’s Food Pantry program
Students experiencing food insecurity at Lincoln can take advantage of the PTSA FOOD PANTRY Program, where they can go home on weekends with a backpack of food.
This year, we’re excited to announce that ROBBIE SIKORA has agreed to be the exclusive sponsor for the Food Pantry Program! Thank you, Robbie!

Lincoln’s 1st Annual Food Drive!
Help us create Feast Boxes for those in need! This November, Lincoln’s Food Drive is an opportunity for students and staff to donate money and/or food items that will be used to put together special holiday feasts for those students and their families who are facing food insecurity this fall, especially in light of the pandemic. We want to give them something special during the upcoming holiday season.
We will do as many ‘feasts’ as we get donations for, with a target of 50 Feast Boxes. We encourage everyone to GIVE A LION’S SHARE!
How to support Lincoln’s Food Drive
You can support the Food Drive by donating money, gift cards and/or food. If donating food, please see the list of items needed on our sign up.
Financial donations. You can make a monetary donation and the PTSA will buy food for the feast boxes. A $30 donation will feed a family of four but any amount is welcome and appreciated.
Gift cards. If you would like to donate a gift card to one of the stores listed below instead of giving a monetary donation, we’ll use the gift card to buy Feast Box food items. Please drop gift cards into the orange donation bins at the main school gate on California Avenue during school hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm).
- COSTCO
- Smart and Final
- Vons/Pavilions
- Ralphs
- Albertsons
Food donations. Check out our Food Drive Signup to see what food items we need. Please only buy items listed. Signing up for specific items allows us to track what we have and ensure that every family we support has the supplies they need.
You can drop off food items in the orange bins at the main school gate on California Avenue, Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm.
Please let the security guards know if any items require refrigeration.
IMPORTANT: If dropping off a frozen turkey, please give it directly to a security guard so they can ensure it’s taken to the freezer in the cafeteria.
